The Weekend

We put a lot of miles on our stroller last Saturday! Mick and Jacob had gone for a walk around the block (a five-mile loop) with the boys on Thursday and Mick suggested that the family repeat the trip on Saturday. We had a great time!

Stopping at a brook for Maynar to pitch rocks.

Our walk ended at the pool, where they met a new friend who sang songs to them.

Then, back to the house for some WATERMELON!

Maynar headed off the porch to play in the rain buckets, while Modygg pitched toys off the porch.

"Where did it go?"

"Hmm."

"No, I don't see it here."

Maynar wondered what it was that had just dropped down from above.

He very kindly rescued the toy and pitched it back up to Modygg on the porch.

Maynar has also been doing quite a bit of cleaning - even cleaning the chives.

Then, back on the porch, he cleaned my feet for me.

Cleaned the porch.

We have appreciated his helpfulness!

Then the tape measure provided some entertainment.

Sunday we headed off to TSC. No race-carts here, just the feed-cart, so Modygg sat in the basket, and Maynar helped Mick push.

Mick ran off to do some shopping, and the boys scurried into mischief.

When we finished, Mick and Maynar returned the cart.

And RAN back to the car.

Back at home, the menfolk read a book together.

(You may hear something about a pig.)

Modygg rounded out the weekend by splashing in the rain bucket that Mick had saved in the shower, one of his favourite activities. :)

Weekend Update

Some pictures and videos from our week ... (I apologize in advance for blurry pictures, but hopefully it will give you a good idea of the action anyway.)

Grammy and Poppy visited on Wednesday and brought along a birthday cake for Modygg! He enjoyed it quite a bit. Maynar helped him blow out the candle.

Maynar enjoyed the cake too.

Later that evening, Maynar requested an ice pop. (It sounds something like "ha pa.") Our typical MO for ice pops is that Maynar gets one, and Modygg and I share another. But this time, Maynar requested both. But he did a great job sharing with Modygg! (as long as Star Trek wasn't too engrossing)

On Thursday, a package was delivered from Grandma and Grandpa, and the boys debuted their new outfits.

Then we headed to Cortland to cash in the ice cream money from Grandma and Grandpa.

We enjoyed the ice cream later that evening. After finishing his first bowl (very carefully), Maynar asked for, "More?"

The evening ended with some raucous brother-time. Mick and I felt that our adult presence was really quite unneeded at this point - the two of them were chasing each other and giggling for probably 15 minutes.

Poppa kicked off the morning of Modygg's birthday with BUBBLES! Maynar's new favourite trick is to stomp on them.

Then, we actually got rain after a rather extreme drought. Maynar made good use of it, of course. :)

For awhile, Modygg was restricted to the porch and watched longingly through the bars.

"Splash!"

Modygg eventually got to join Maynar off-porch, which resulted in his being very wet and dirty. Fast-forward to post-bath... :)

This almost qualified as a selfie - I might have been the one to actually push the button, but he had the right idea!

This morning, Maynar and I went to the community pool and broke in his new swimming trunks! :)

He did a little bit of splashing with me, but also spent a lot of time with the shovel in the sand.

(Turns out the drawstring's not actually a drawstring, so we had a couple of 'pants checks', but Mick figured it's not the first occurrence of exposure in McGraw.)

Back home this evening, Modygg found himself an apple - it had been on the stairs, but he reached through the bars and pulled it back through. I could tell from the look in his eye that he fully intended to eat that apple.

Meanwhile, Poppa and Maynar collected some kindling for a fire.

(The watering can proved to be a bit of a snag, but Maynar figured out how to navigate the obstacle.)

Then, Poppa broke up the kindling, and Maynar loaded up the grill.

Meanwhile, Modygg continued to make progress on his apple.

And the fire-making continued...

... steady progress on the apple ...

... getting ready for cheeseburgers ...

... He actually ate the entire apple! He spit out the most inedible parts of the core.

With the fire started, Maynar headed back to his water buckets.

The stuffed animals have been utilized for soaking, then squeezing the water out, then soaking, then squeezing the water out, etc ...

Then Maynar headed back to the porch and decided to organize the scrap lumber.

Then there was a bit more raucous brother-time - Maynar rocked the horse vigorously while Modygg attempted to drink the bubble solution.

Towards the end of supper, Maynar requested a hamburger bun and lounged on the trampoline to finish up. He was shortly joined by Modygg.

More bubbles!

Back to stacking lumber ...

And that's a wrap! :)
